Upgrading the Viper kit to Lipo (Lithium Polymer) batteries

Want to replace the Viper kit's 9V batteries with rechargeable lipoly batteries?  It's easy!  You just need to choose a battery, replace the Viper's connector, and have a charger for it.

This rechargeable 11.1V 360mAh lipo battery fits nicely into the back of the Viper kits.  It will last around an hour on a full charge.  If you want longer run times, choose any of the bigger 3S lipos on this page and put them in the front of the robot instead.  We recommend going with 3-cell lipolys (11.1V) rather than 2-cell (7.4V) because you will get an increase in speed over the 9V batteries.

Those batteries will need JST connectors instead of the 9V snaps that are included with the kit.  You will need to replace the 9V snaps with a female JST connector (keeping the male connector for your battery charger).  Cut one 9V connector completely off, so that the ends have no chance to contact anything and make a short circuit.  Cut the other snap, leaving a couple inches of wire. Then splice the new connector onto those red and black wires, using heat shrink to cover the joints.
